MEC Mining/AusIMM - The Impact of Decarbonisation on Geotechnical Design for Underground Mining
In Australian underground mining the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions of ground support is not generally considered as a design factor, but this may soon change following a joint mining company statement on Climate Change through the International Council of Mining and Metals.
This presentation summarises why emissions related to ground support have typically not been considered even as efforts occur to reduce emissions in other areas of mining, and why this may well soon change. Several case studies are presented showing areas for potential emission reduction within ground support design and product selection, and a list of suggestions for other areas to explore.
Audience members will be encouraged to share their own experiences and ideas in this area, facilitated by a discussion panel including members of MEC Mining’s Geotechnical Team and representatives from ground support manufacturers
