Alvin D’Almaida

Australian Trade and Investment Commissioner to Chile and Peru

Mr D'Almaida joined the Australian Government in 2022 to lead critical minerals investment before arriving in Chile in December 2024.

A Western Australia geologist by profession, Alvin started his career with 18 years at Rio Tinto Diamonds and Rio Tinto Iron Ore in exploration, mining and global business development activities across Australia, Canada, Southern Africa, Peru, Chile, Brazil, and New Zealand. He then joined Wood MacKenzie as Senior Iron Ore Analyst, supporting commercial activities in the banking, government, logistics, mineral economics and mining sectors.

Alvin then led resources strategy and investment functions as Principal Resources Advisor to the Sir John Key and Dame Jacinda Ardern New Zealand Governments, followed by Manager Resources Investment in the New South Wales Government. Alvin is Austrade’s LATAM leader for mining, resources, and clean energy.
