Why does innovation seem so hard in mining?

These are simple key questions that many in the industry are asking. The answers are complex and invariably come back to People their behaviours, their biases and incentives and the organisational structures and processes they constrained by. Building on the experiences of both the successes and failures of very significant innovation programs Gavin reflects on what works and what didn’t, the ingredients of successful innovation programs and the barriers that bring them undone.

Presenter

Gavin is an industry leader in geoscience, mining and technology. Building on a 35-year career with BHP where he held senior executive roles as Head of group wide technical functions including technology, he now consults to mining and METs companies, Governments and research organisation as well as contributing at Board level. Gavin brings a deep understanding of the mining industry, and its professionals, along with a vision for the future.
