Global Competition Announcement: ISASMELT™ Test Hub Competition at MOLTEN 2024

· 600 words, 2 minute read
AusIMM and Glencore Technology are excited to announce the ISASMELT™ Test Hub Competition, a global initiative open to individuals worldwide, in conjunction with MOLTEN 2024, scheduled to take place in Brisbane this June. This competition offers a remarkable opportunity for innovators in the pyrometallurgical field to showcase their ideas and contribute to the transition towards sustainable technologies.
Main Prize Details:

All participants registered for MOLTEN 2024 are eligible to submit one test concept. The Main Prize, valued at $USD93,000, provides funding for the winning pyrometallurgical idea to undergo pilot testing at Glencore Technology's newly established ISASMELT™ Test Hub at the University of Queensland, Australia.

Second Prize Details:

Available worldwide, regardless of a MOLTEN 2024 registration, the Second Prize offers discounted access to the ISASMELT™ Test Hub, providing a $USD30,000 discount on the service.

Competition Guidelines:
  • Participants retain ownership of their entry's results.
  • Glencore Technology will sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with participants for Intellectual Property (IP) protection.
  • The ISASMELT™ Test Hub will be operational from September 2024, facilitating exploration of concepts, testing of new feeds, and expediting critical financial decisions.
  • Results can be delivered in as little as twenty-eight (28) days after sample arrival, with observers welcome during the process.
  • The ISASMELT™ Test Hub, utilising the F600 furnace for piloting, offers thorough, cost-effective, rapid, clean, and safe testing facilities.
  • Materials suitable for testing include non-ferrous feeds such as primary ores, concentrates, and post-consumer materials, with some limitations applying to hazardous substances.
  • Unusual or complicated test briefs are welcome, and these may shift the price slightly. A standard 5 test runs, including elemental assays, will apply to most test needs.
How to Enter:

Entrants must submit their test concept by answering five questions, via the online form by June 7, 2024. Entries will be evaluated based on practicality, safety, real-world applicability, clarity of description, interpretability, clear outcomes, and contribution to sustainability and the circular economy.

Who would benefit from Entering:

This competition is ideal for individuals seeking to test materials to understand their behaviour during smelting processes. Winning entrants will gain valuable insights into the products generated, elemental distribution, fuming factors, and slag quality. Additionally, the results obtained can be effectively presented to management committees, boards, or financial institutions to support the advancement of their projects.

Join us in shaping the future of sustainable materials and accelerating the transition towards a more environmentally conscious metallurgical industry.
