5. Construct a personal plan of action to identify opportunities for MOS enhancement.

 

In this module you will learn about Life of Mine Planning (LOMP)

1. Describe the principles of life-of-mine planning and the mine planning process.
2. List the general inclusions of a LOM Plan.
3. Compare open pit and underground mine scheduling and how they link to business outcomes.
4. Model the effect of the supply chain fluctuations on business outcomes.
5. Construct a personal plan of action to identify opportunities to improve mine planning in your workplace.

 

In this module you will learn the Mine Operations Reporting

1. Identify the key elements of an effective operations reporting system.
2. Examine the reports required to understand mine performance.
3. Describe techniques that maximise the interpretation and usefulness of mine operations reports.
4. Identify the minimum reports required for industry governance and compliance.
5. Construct a personal plan of action that will improve reporting effectiveness in your area of operations.

In this module you will learn about Mine Accounting

1. List the key elements of mine accounting.
2. Assess mine accounting principles and systems.
3. Describe the main risk generating factors that influence the quality of resource estimates.
4. Examine mine valuation techniques.
5. Construct a personal plan of action that will improve estimates in your area of operations.

Course structure

The five-week course is a collaborative, hands-on online learning experience, taking learners approximately 20 hours to complete.

Course content includes:

  • A 'Meet the Experts' interactive virtual classroom session
  • Informative videos
  • Additional resources and readings (case studies, articles)
  • Selective examples of tools used
  • Group discussion forums
  • Learning activities in the form of short quizzes

Please note, attendance at the live session is not mandatory; the virtual classroom session will be recorded and available on the same day for participants who are unable to attend live.

Joanna is a results focused and experienced mining professional with experience working across a broad range of commodities including diamonds, base metals and coal operations.

Her technical and operational background makes her incredibly qualified to project manage innovative mine solutions in both site based and in consultative roles.

She has leveraged these skills into project management and leadership roles with a focus on adding value, ensuring safe sustainable cash flow and growth through technical influence and strong relationships.

Chris Carr

Head of Technical Services (IGO Limited)
Chris is a Mining Engineer with more than 35 years’ experience, who holds an MBA, and MSc in Mineral Economics. Chris has worked largely in underground mining of gold and base metals, and has also held roles in open pit, contracting and consulting. He led the Ernest Henry Underground project from pre-feasibility through to the final stages of shaft development, and more recently led IGO’s Nova Operation from the end of construction through to consistent operations.
Chris is currently Head of Technical Services for IGO, where he leads underground mine electrification and site power decarbonisation studies, and is also a director of the AusIMM.

Jo-Anne Dudley

Director, Miner Ventures
Jo-Anne Dudley is a mining engineer with C-suite experience, having finished her journey as COO of the TSX and NYSE listed Turquoise Hill Resources at the end of 2022. Jo has subsequently started her own company and is assisting mining companies to navigate pathways to value for projects – bridging the yawning chasm between technical specialists and mining executives!

Jo-Anne is also a non-executive director for Perth-based gold miner Ora Banda Mining Pty Ltd.

Jo is a Fellow member of the AusIMM and was selected as the 2018 Exceptional Woman in Queensland Resources, and was also honoured to be named as one of the 2018 Global 100 Inspirational Women in Mining. In 2019 Jo-Anne was sponsored by Chief Executive women to attend the Wharton Business School Executive Leadership programme.

Frequently asked questions

The course will be run entirely online via a cloud-based Learning Management System (LMS) which can be accessed via computer, tablet or phone. Participants will simply need to have a working Internet connection and a computer, tablet or phone with sound to access the course. 

The full course is estimated to take about 20 hours of learning. Participants will have access to the course platform for five weeks to complete all modules. 

We aim to run two intakes each year. 

No, all virtual classrooms are recorded and made available on the learning platform for participants who are unable to attend the live session.

At the moment, no, but we will be looking at delivering the course in other languages in the near future. 

Participants can earn professional development (PD) hours for undertaking the course. One contact hour of technical content is equivalent to one PD hour.
