The 2026 AusIMM Awards are now open for nominations!

What does this have to do with the Health and Safety Society?

A lot! Apart from the Highest Honours and Leadership awards, there are Professional Excellence awards aligned to AusIMM Societies.

For the Health and Safety Society, health and safety excellence is celebrated by the Jim Torlach award.

This prestigious award is named in Honour of Jim Torlach ex-State mining engineer of Western Australia who passed away a short 20 years ago, on 31 May 2006. Amongst his many contributions to the safety of all WA mine workers, Jim was responsible for the roll out of the Duty of Care provisions now firmly ensconced in the WA Mines Safety and Inspection Act.

The leadership required for such a groundbreaking change in legislation is something that we should all aspire to.

So, who do you know that may be worthy of the Jim Torlach Safety Award? What safety interventions are you aware of that have been or are being developed by today's safety leaders?

If you know of someone who may qualify for consideration, then follow this link below to find out about the nominations guidelines and the nomination form.

Nomination guidelines are available here and the nomination form is available here
